Props to the Superintendent of Worthington Schools
It's refreshing to see a public official refuse to entertain right-wing horseshit.
The right wing and its media echo chamber is currently engaged in a resiliency campaign against public officials of all stripes, from election officials to public school teachers.
One of the most infamous examples is Libs of TikTok, a Twitter account led by a hobgoblin who has made a career out of harassing private citizens and trying to get them fired from their jobs. It’s hard to overstate how imperative it has become to spreading the right’s lies about gay and transgender youth in our schools.
Libs of TikTok recently targeted Elizabeth Blackburn, a local housing activist who is the type of person who sold her possessions to live at an unhoused encampment and became sort of an unofficial liaison with the city that landed every resident adequate housing accommodations:
These Christ-like behaviors as well as her leftist views and honest sex work put her in the crosshairs of Libs of TikTok in a tweet of which I refuse to share even a screenshot.
You don’t have to be a genius to realize what happened next. America’s most formidable army of anonymous, socially stunted losers crawled out of their sewers and into her mailbox. Calling her the types of things that these brave warriors didn’t even have the heart to put their names on while flailing away at their keyboards like the sad sacks of shit they are.
The Right loves to bitch about cancel culture, but only when it happens to them for using slurs in public. They effectively tried to ruin this woman’s life because she dared to speak to high school students about housing issues within our community. If you’re not familiar with the right’s bad-faith tactics, it’s easy to give in to their demands just to get them out of your life.
That’s what I expected the Worthington District to pull, but the superintendent reminded me that I only roleplay as the smartest person in the universe in my newsletter.
From Hannah Grossman of Fox News, who also picked up this story because right-wing media coordinates its assaults:
Dr. Trent Bowers said in a Monday email to Fox News Digital that the activist spoke to high school students about homelessness in a class catered to radical voices.
He added that, "A school principal was in the room during the discussion and there was nothing presented to students like is being presented in social media online."
Wow. Imagine that. Libs of TikTok was full of shit. But that doesn’t matter because Libs of TikTok got precisely what it wanted: Manufactured outrage among their followers who are convinced public schools are hubs of pedophilia.
Chaya Raichik, the owner of the brand, doesn’t care who she hurts. She has deluded herself into thinking she’s doing God’s work “protecting the children,” which is probably easier when making millions of dollars a year.
And you know what? Maybe they’re right. Maybe God is on their side. But if that’s the case, I’ll feel more comfortable in Hell with souls like Blackburn’s than I ever would in Heaven among the cabal of reptilian unfuckables that attack her.
